Negotiating the offer

It is not the time to play hardball, but it is the time to lay the foundation for open communication and long-term growth.
What if we looked at some other options...and direct the negotiations to other compensation areas, such as incentives, bonuses, or perquisites.
Are there any identifiable elements of stress?
For example, if you recognize time to be a critical element for the interviewer ("We need someone to start next week") , try to meet the deadlines. It will take the pressure off the interviewer, demonstarte your ability to work with others, and increase your chances of negotiating something else.
Keep in mind the big picture--the entire compensation package. It is easy to get obsessed with a part and lose track of the whole.

To maintain your flexibility, work with a range.
Whatever your market value, you still must fit within the employer's salary structure.
