Ch2: Lighting the Fire Topic Selection with Passion and Curiosity
Ch3: Search and Seize: getting to the Good Sources
Ch4: Taking notes digitally.  a modern approach to choosing, recording, and organizing research information is discussed, with an emphasis on how students can make progress in shaping their research finding into coherent thoughts.
Ch5: Speak to the living: real sources, real audiences offers a fresh layer of researching methods that moves the process of asking questions and gathering information off of the page and into the everyday world

Sample research project requirements and timeline

Paper requirements:
Typed, 12 point Times New Roman
Double-spaced, 1'' margins all around
MLA Citation and Format
At least 10 qualified sources
5-6 pages in length

A note on the timeline:
Some assignments will require significant class time for students to work with access to you and, in some cases, your library staff. For others, you will have students working on their own time. This is how I manage to complete a lengthy task and all the other topics in our curricular, too. Students likely wont need class time and your full attention while working on all of these tasks. This is a good time to move forward with other subject matter in your course.
For example, if they've been doing thesis statements for years, or you've previously worked with them in your course, you may feel comfortable assigning that without class time to work. Use your sidcretion about when you will be using your class time for research tasks and when you'll be having students work outside of class while you work with different material.
